Today’s KROQ Flashback: Tubeway Army With Gary Numan ” Are Friends Electric?”
Had Gary Numan and his peers not cranked out the sound they did back in the dark ages KROQ may well not be around today. The electro-new-wave sound was an essential key for this radio station to stand out from the regular, by-the-numbers rock (and, conversely, the oversaturation of the synth sound opened the doors to Nirvana and grunge later).
Gary is playing the El Rey tonight and tomorrow night, and to welcome him ‘home’ here’s one of the most covered of all the New Wave songs (seriously, dig in and grab yourself some of the amazing modern covers that are out there and go see Mr. Numan tonight!).

Information Society does a great cover of this song… also featuring Mr. Numan himself. Who is this “Information Society?” you ask? -Well they were guys behind “Peace and Love, Inc.” and “What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy).”
