According to sources close to Andy Irons, rumors were confirmed that the three-time world champion surfer passed away while traveling back home to Hawaii.
The cause of his death is uncertain at this time, but he had missed the first two rounds of a surfing competition this past weekend in Puerto Rico due to illness (Dengue fever) and was heading home to recover when he passed.
Rest in peace Andy.
Known as one of the only people who could truly compete with current world champion Kelly Slater, the world and the sport of surfing will be changed forever.
