Death Cab For Cutie Is Proud Of Their New Album

Death Cab For Cutie is coming out with a new album and I must say I am just as excited as they are. This will be the bands seventh full-length album, and is due out sometime in Spring 2011.

The new CD will feature 12 to 13 new songs, and will give fans a different spin than their last album Narrow Stairs which topped the charts in 2008.  Singer and guitarist Ben Gibbard has said “I’m so proud of this album that at this point I don’t care if people don’t like it.”

Well my friend, that is a very bold statement to make. Cheers to hoping the album kicks ass.

Ben continued to tell SPIN that this record will have a different sound. It is not so much a guitar-based record, because people will be expecting that from them. Instead the band experimented with new and different tools like for example vintage keyboards.

Look out for songs like “Codes and Keys” which will have the bands first string section in 12 years,  “Unobstructed Views” a 7 minute instrumental song, and  “Monday Morning” a song which makes Ben quite happy.

The band will definitely be following the release with a tour, but don’t count on it being for too long. These men have families now and that is a very important part of their lives. Plus Ben adds “So living off in the woods for a month away from family isn’t something we want to do.” He finds that making another record for a year is better than being on tour for seven straight months. “I’d like to capitalize on feeling inspired to writing rather than hobbling up onstage and jumping around for two hours in Dresden.”
