Here’s the one thing I’ve learned about working on the Kevin & Bean show: dare to be different and you’ll be mocked. It takes a thick skin to like something or go somewhere or be anything but exactly what the group considers “normal.”
Today they’re clowning me after it came out on the air what I bought my wife for her birthday present last month.
Here is that gift. It’s a bug. A Costa Rican cricket, mounted in a box.
I got her a neat coffee table book about bugs to go with, too.
Here’s the rest of the story. Earlier this year, Donna and I went to Paris (the one in France) on vacation. One of the many wonderful sights we saw was the legendary Deyrolle’s shop, established 1831. What is it? A store, yes, but a also a science museum focusing on zoology, botany, mineralogy, and entomology (not the study of Entenmann’s donuts, Kevin!)
Here are a few of my other photos from our visit to Deyrolle’s:
For the record, I believe my wife when she says she loved her bug. She did not know that I had gone back to the store to get it after I saw how much she admired it. Then smuggled it home in our luggage and kept it hidden at home for almost three months until her birthday.
