Slash Announces That Velvet Revolver Will Continue On…Without Scott Weiland

Filed Under:

Since the split with lead singer Scott Weiland in April 2008, Velvet Revolver has been on hiatus. But now according to Slash’s MySpace, he, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner are back in the studio, this time without Weiland.

“VR is back together jamming, trying out singers. No updates yet. But it’s great to hook up with Duff, Matt & Dave after all this time,” Slash said. This confirms a post by Sorum on his Twitter last month when he wrote “Velvet Revolver Jamming in the studio beginning of Oct. Tryin 2 singers. Excited bout that.”

The names of the singers they are auditioning have yet to be released, but after the band split, Alter Bridge‘s Myles Kennedy and Royston Langdon of Spacehog were rumored to have tried out as Weiland’s replacement. The future for Velvet Revolver is unknown but Slash promises good things, “I’ll keep you posted on any interesting developments from those sessions as they happen. The creative juices are definitely flowing. I’m positive something awesome is going to surface soon.”

At one point I was hoping for Chris Cornell as the replacement but now I’d rather stick with the Soundgarden.

You know, everyone talks about how great Velvet Revolver is/was and I’m fine with it. But for me personally it’s much nicer to see younger bands like Heavy Glow making great rock music. Just seems like it’s so stale otherwise…
