Since it’s Halloween month…
Just a week ago, my friend and tattoo artist Connor Garrity posted something about a movie that he felt I had to see because he thought it was “awesome.” I respect his taste in life, so of course I had to see this “awesome” movie. Yeah, awesomely f**ked up!
It is, hands down, the scariest, most frightening, most twisted, horrific, dreadful and spine-chilling movie I have ever seen in all my years living. In fact, I can’t imagine that anything inside my mother’s womb when I was being held captive there, was as gruesome and gooey.
Martyrs is a French horror film directed by some sadistic and “brilliant” man named Pascal Laugier. I plan on writing the man a very strongly worded letter for the cinematic horror he put me through.
In short, the movie is about a girl who suffered unimaginable abuse as a young child in a slaughterhouse, and the unspeakable horrors that unfold when she arrives at an isolated cabin in the woods to seek out vengeance fifteen years later.
The story begins with a bloody and beaten Lucie, obviously the victim of seriously inhuman abuse, hospitalized after somehow managing to escape her very disturbed and crazy ass captors. Nearly catatonic after her life-altering ordeal, Lucie only manages to become functional again as a result of her friendship with Anna, a fellow abuse victim who selflessly reaches out to the badly damaged girl. Fifteen years later, Lucie guns down an entire family in cold blood thinking that they were responsible for what happened to her when she was a prisoner. Is it the right family or has she snapped because of a demon that only she can see? Later, when Lucie calls on her old friend Anna to help her dispose of the bodies, the truth about Lucie’s traumatic early life experience slowly comes into focus and Anna is dragged into the kind of deranged depravity that is unimaginable to most.
There are torture chambers, freaky old women, the skinning of humans, and stomach churning events too unspeakable to tell you about. There is throat slitting, imaginary demons, the sawing off of limbs, and the question of “what happens when you die”. It’s fucking barbaric and yet it has a point and it will leave you spinning in your own head and possible hurling.
You MUST see this if you like horror.
Here’s the trailer, which does the movie and it’s hideous, ghastly, blood-curling nature NO JUSTICE AT ALL.
Here’s a montage I found on You Tube. It’s a “tribute” to Martyrs:
Let me make this clear, it has NO monsters per say and it is not a scary movie like Paranormal Activity is supposed to be. It’s fucking scary cause it feels so real. It is something that can easily happen to you or I. Hence it is horrifying.
Good luck with this one!
