Video: John Legend And The Roots Cover Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up”
John Legend and The Roots are not names you’ll typically find on a rock station, but when they cover an epic beauty like Arcade Fire‘s “Wake Up,” it’s almost impossible not to be intrigued.
Directed by East-coast highbrow Spike Lee, this version inevitably jams out a soulful and emotionally charged performance relieving my skepticism. Let’s be honest here, “Wake Up” is straight-up musical magic and it takes some serious guts and skill to render its level of awesome.
Now immerse yourself into something truly avant-garde. If you haven’t checked out Arcade Fire’s “elevator” version of “Neon Bible,” followed by their pit performance of “Wake Up,” you need to do so immediately.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions. What on earth would possess these people to mess with perfection by butchering this perfect song?! Arcade Fire should sue.
