Phoenix Clear Up Confusion With Video Diary

The French alternative rock sensation that is Phoenix, have come out with a new treat for fans.

The Grammy award-winning band from Versailles, have turned to the internet to present a video-series/documentary in which they give fans an insight into their album ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix‘.

For the next 2 weeks Phoenix will be  giving you an insight into the making of their album, commented by the members themselves and Philippe Zdar, who co-produced the album, track by track. A total of 9 parts will be released, one a day, Monday through Friday. Don’t worry, although the videos are in French, there is English sub-titles included.

The band will take you into their creative writing space, and show you the techniques used in writing and recording each song, as well as talk about the inspiration for each song. For example, do you know what ‘Lisztomania‘ is about? I didn’t.  I thought it was some made up jargon, that sounded cool, and they used it as the song title. WRONG. This song is actually about bad ass composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt, which explains the piano in the song. It’s about how he was the first ‘real’ rock star, and the crowds and girls would go wild over him because of his talent and good looks.

On a side note, I always thought he sang “Julian Julian Julian Chocolate Julian[...],” it’s actually “Do let do let do let jugulate do let[...].” How embarrassing.

It’s cool though, how the majority of their songs are based on historical events i.e: 1901, Napoleon Says, Lisztomania. Enjoy the videos, and don’t forget to visit the bands official site, everyday for future videos.
