Raise your hands: Who loves reunions?
2010 sent the rock universe into a frenzy when news came through that bands like Soundgarden, Pavement, Devo, and Faith No More, to name a few, would reunite and appear at such festivals as Lollapalooza, Coachella, SXSW, and Pitchfork. With all this activity, Radio.com’s Top Ten decided to compile a list of the most notable band reunions of 2010 (so far). Did we miss one of your personal favorites?
10. Primus
The experimental/funk/jam-band Primus is in the middle of recording their first album since 1999. Our friends at the Guest List caught up with Les Claypool to talk about the reunion, among other fun tidbits.
Grammy-winning American rock band Stone Temple Pilots recently announced a brand new album, their first since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da.
A reunited GBV is expected to perform for Matador 21st Birthday Party in Las Vegas October 1-3 along with Pavement, Belle & Sebastian,Sonic Youth, Spoon, Cat Power, and more.
7. OMD
The British synthpop outfit Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who brought the children of the ’80s songs like “Enola Gay” and “Electricity,” is releasing its first new album in 14 years entitled, History of Modern scheduled for a September 28 release.
6. Pavement
After ten years apart, ’90s indie rockers Pavement regrouped this year are still busy performing their “one-time-only” reunion tour into the fall.
5. Soundgarden
After a 12-year hiatus, Chris Cornell posted on his website that “the 12-year break is over and school is back in session.” The band performed at Lollapalloza this year.
It’s been 18 years since Pil toured in America. The punk band featuring Johnny Lydon, guitarist Lu Edmonds, drummer Bruce Smith, and bassist Scott Firth performed at this year’s Coachella festival during a spring/summer U.S tour.
Bachman-Turner Overdrivewere radio rock gods in the 1970s, responsible for megahits like “American Woman,” “Takin’ Care of Business,” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.” Randy Bachman and Fred Turner reunited this year under the name Bachman and Turner, and this week our friends at Street Date talked to Bachman about the duo’s new, self-titled album.
Stephen Stills, Richie Furay, and Neil Young, the surviving members of influential country-rock band Buffalo Springfield, are reforming for their first concert in 42 years at Young’s annual Bridge School Benefit concerts (Oct 23-24 in Mountain View, California).
1. Devo
Even though the new-wave pioneers performed at last year’s SXSW, fans didn’t get the full Devo reunion experience until the release of Something for Everybody, their first album in more than three decades.
