The Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez Lopez has released a new album that’s a stretch from his usual guitar shredding awesomeness. His new work, titled Tychozorente, has no guitars but features singer/songwriter and actress Ximena Sarinana Rivera as vocals with Lopez handling the programming and production of this excellent foray into electronic music.

You can listen to and purchase the album for a minimum donation of $6.99 below. “But please feel free to donate as much as you can spare. All profits will be given to the fund to make more music. That’s how it works…” – Omar

I was fortunate enough to catch his show at the Troubadour the other night and am now surprised to hear that his album is guitar-less! He was still shredding away on stage w/ Ximena Sarinana Rivera on vocals, and Cedric Bixler-Zavala watching the entire show from the side (but, disappointingly, never sharing the stage). He did make reference to his “best friend of 20 years” being there to support him, so my fingers are crossed for another Mars Volta album down the line.
