First Listen: Smashing Pumpkins Release New Song – “Spangled”
Heads up! The Smashing Pumpkins, have released a new song today off their 8th studio album, ‘Teargarden By Kaleidescope‘. This is the 6th single released off this album, and a good one.
The difference between this studio album and other Smashing Pumpkins, besides the obvious new members, is that it won’t be sold in stores, yet , it will be released as free MP3 downloads, and as a series of limited-edition EPs, leading to a single box set release. The album will have 44 new songs, released one at a time.
The album had a very interesting concept, which Corgan based on the four phases of the ‘Fools Journey’ version of the Tarot – the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic. Which basically has the album looking past, present and future all at the same time and trying to have that perspective. Each time a set of four tracks has been made available for download, it will then be made available for purchase in two formats: a physical limited edition EP on CD and digital format; beginning with Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs for a Sailor, and then Vol. 2 : The Solstice Bare. All eleven records will culminate as a box set with entirely new packaging and exclusive content.
You can download the song for yourself here, I’ve just listened to this song at least 5 times in a row, I’m pretty sure Chip, who’s sitting next to me is getting annoyed. If you want to have a listen to the other Pumpkins singles released earlier this year you can listen here.
Very old school psychedelic sound.
There’s childlike innocence when you just don’t really know anything in the world and it all seems sort of big and magical…the teen, aware but not really liking what’s going on…the third person that’s cynical, where you get kind of bitter because you feel so small and there’s all these things that are sort of happening and there’s not much you can do about it…the fourth stage out of that would be finding a sort of spiritual place within yourself where you can live in reality, you can see it for what it is, but maybe you can find a deeper source of inspiration and peace. – Corgan
