I realize you are playing records of local bands. But, most of the time, they are bands people already know on a nationwide, if not worldwide level.

Local music used to mean local artists who are starving for their art and running up their credit cards on studio time.

Fitz and the Tantrums? Come on. Call this show The Bands That Are Known Already From Southern California.

Go underground a little more. Sift through what is being sent to you, please.

Local shows cannot be about ratings but about what is emanating from down your street.

Hey man Im with The b Foundation, touring the country, playing large local shows, and we’re still broke as f**k….I think you’re vision of the underground is a little slanted.. thats it..

I’ll swap places with you DJ Wingard, so that I can say Fitz and the Tantrums are local – You come on, wake up, smell the coffee and get tuned in to the coolest sound around – FATT

Come and spend a week here in the UK and see what commercial drivel is pumped to the masses – Ive nothing against songs and bands that are talented and can make a great living from it, but so much sounds the same its embarressing – Fitz brings the new sound, shakes it up with those soulful riffs and drops the blues just when you need it most. The best of whats known, and yet, so alive in comparison to other stuff. They are the movers and shakers, they are the dreamers of dreams (can you guess where my vote went – lol)

In response to DJ Wingard:

In some respect I do agree with your commentary of the selection of “local music”. BUT with that said, I must defend Kat in this regard, she plays, daily, music that is sent to her for the locals only show, although this is not part of the normal play rotation, she does broadcast live on ustream. On behalf of my fellow Ustreamers, I must say that Kat has played, and made us listen to some HORRIBLE music to find that one diamond in the rough. So to say she doesn’t “sift” through what was sent to her, is a mis-statement at best. check in one day and have listen.

The Ustream community

I agree with DJ Wingard. The only band from this list are “starving for their art and running up their credit cards on studio time” are Red Cortez. Sure they may have followers from different states but they are a true local band that deserve to get more recognition.I have seen them twice and they were freakin’ awesome!

DJ Wingard,
Maybe if your band’s music wasn’t trite it would deserve a place on this countdown. Stop starving for your “art” and get a real job, because I don’t think music is for you.

Sorry.

I respect and appreciate your opinion, EM. I think that the day I wrote that I was already taking for granted how great the show is, how great the host is, and how refreshing it is to even have a chance to be played just because I’m local.

That said, constructive criticism is and always should be welcome in America. Your opinion of our music is that it is trite. You suggest I should quit altogether anything that is related to music.

    I can’t. It kills me! I’ve tried.

I’m sorry you think our music is not for you.

    Thanks for your recommendations,

    DJ Wingard
