Puddle of Mudd To Make Covers Album?

If you know me well, you know I’m a teasing, mischievous little witch. Case in point: you got to read about my lively night at the Linkin Park Laser/Listening show that included a one-on-one chat with frontman, Chester Bennington. But did you know that I got even more insider information from Puddle of Mudd‘s hilarious (and uber-friendly) frontman, Wes Scantlin?
Obviously not, because I like dishing the dirt like any sensible girl would i.e. never putting it all out there on the first journalistic date. So, what did I learn?
That’s a total lie. I’m not very sensible. But I am down for a good time and Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin did ask me to start a wrestling match with him instead of saying, “Hello. Nice to meet you.” Now that is an awesome way to greet a girl. Take note, boys.
Puddle of Mudd–famous for hits like “Blurry” and “Control”– have just come back from touring and are in the writing process for a new record. And here’s the scoop straight from the lips of Wes Scantlin himself (after we decided against aforementioned wrestling match): there is talk of Puddle of Mudd heading into the studio and making a covers album that will include a few original songs.
Scantlin was kicking around ideas for covers like ZZ Top, AC/DC (specifically “TNT”), and(shocker) Patsy Cline. He started singing a rendition of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” for me while I tried to convince him to do AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds” instead of “TNT” and Bonnie Tyler‘s “Holdin’ Out For A Hero” (my new cheesy song obsession).
Let’s just say I might have educated Wes Scantlin for the first time on the existence of the ’80s pop entity that is Bonnie Tyler. I know. I impress myself too.
Puddle of Mudd hasn’t been on the airwaves for a while, so here are some videos for newbies i.e. welcome to “Puddle of Mudd 101.”
Enjoy Puddle of Mudd’s 2001 hit, “Blurry.”
And here is them taking “Control.”
How would you feel about a Puddle of Mudd covers album with some of your hard-rock favorites, much-anticipated originals and maybe a girlie country ballad or two?
