First Listen: Rivers Cuomo Opens Up About His Music, Streams Album

Thanks to Stryker’s tweet, I found out Weezer‘s, Rivers Cuomo, had an article written about him in the Los Angeles Times. Rivers opened up about his musical motivation and how he feels immature for his age.
“
Maybe I haven't matured in some ways that other 40-year-olds have.

The interview opens up with: “Maybe I haven’t matured in some ways that other 40-year-olds have,” the Weezer front man states. It’s a good thing though, because that hasn’t stopped him from going all out on stage when he performs. And, while most rock stars are in it for the babes, the wild woman, the rippin’ and the tearin’, Rivers doesn’t see it that way, he just loves performing.
Rivers also opened up about his music and how he feels he needs to be on top of things when it comes to writing music, he wants to try stuff that has never been done before. He just wants to keep things as simple as possible, and he is into simple songwriting, and he feels Hurley epitomizes this. And to answer questions as to his collaborations with B.O..B. and Weezy, Rivers said, “I always like balance,” he said. “If I’m playing rock music all the time, chances are I’ll start craving some lighter, poppier stuff, both to listen to and to play. I compare music to massage. If someone’s been working on your back for a long time, you really want them to move down to your legs or something.”
You can read the interview at the LA Times, and if you want to check out their new album before it hits stores, the guys are streaming their whole new album online now on their MySpace page.
Weezer “Memories” from Hurley, hitting stores September 14.
