My pick of the week: The Expendables
Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and like every badass in Hollywood is in this movie. It’s about… IT DOESN’T MATTER! Are there mercenaries and handguns and knives and explosions? YES! They are a-plenty.
The only thing that concerns me about this movie is that Stallone may have lost his touch as a screenwriter – he’s given us some of the coolest names in motion picture history: Rocky Balboa, Mason Dixon, Union Cane, Apollo Creed, Tommy Gunn, Clubber Lang… the name he gave himself in THIS movie – Barney Ross. But that’s the only thing I could find wrong with this film. That’s my pick, obviously, for this week.
Eat Pray Love:
Based on the wildly popular book (purchased by cat-ladies everywhere) – Julia Roberts stars as Elizabeth Gilbert, who travels around the world eating, praying, and loving. We don’t need Julia Roberts encouraging women to eat pizza!
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:
Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the lovely Ramona. Michael Cera is Scott, who falls head over heels in love with her. There’s only one small problem – in order to date Ramona, Scott has to work his way through her past relationships. I love Michael Cera. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, I love her. She’s so adorable.
Edgar Wright though is really the attraction to this film. He is an amazing director. He’s the one who gave you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Brilliant director, and the visuals, along with the story, make Scott Pilgrim a slam dunk.
