Weak! When will they get back to writing kick-ass music?
Not Disappointed
July 27, 2010 8:14 pm
When you stop living in the past, where Hybrid Theory would have felt new and fresh. If you want that, go listen to those records. Clearly you’re an expert on what their new record will sound like, just by listening to clips of their first single. A lot of artists try to grow over time to stay relevant, but they usually fail and fade away. Linkin are trying new things, new sounds, while NOT trying to be like everyone else, and clearly finding a lot of success doing this. But I understand the ones stuck in the past are the most vocal. Unfortunately. Record should be good, though. Clearly they weren’t going to clone M2M after all the backlash. But they should expand upon that direction, and figure out ways to keep both groups of fans satisfied.
Disappointed
July 28, 2010 4:49 pm
Lol! Not Disappointed, you make a hell of a lot of assumptions about me. I’m def. not as good as those people that can judge an entire album by a 30secs clip. I don’t want HT or Meteora re-hashed, or anything like it. I applaud the LP boys for taking the musical risks they do. I even liked some of the songs from M2M even though they weren’t kick-ass in my opinion. I just don’t think their music as of late, including this short clip, has had the same ability to energize a crowd, and is therefore weak. Many bands have changed their sound and still been able to write kick-ass music, e.g. Papa Roach, Aerosmith, Staind, etc. I’m not your typical fanboy that thinks anything a band puts out is gold, I use my mind; next time use yours before assuming someone wants the past or infer they are stuck in it.
I’m happy for those that like the clip, and for those of us that don’t like it, hopefully the rest of the album, and song, will have more energy. As other posters have pointed out, we can’t really judge an entire album, or song, from 30secs. Who knows, maybe the rest of the song is kick-ass, or as mabye as ‘amazing’ writes, it will give us all “Goosebumps,” but this 30secs is weak.
Either way, I’ll still buy the album, and go to the concerts, as hopefully everyone will, to support LP.

Disappointed (No More)
August 2, 2010 4:17 pm
Listening to the full track today has changed my opinion of The Catalyst. The 30sec clip was a bad representation of the entire song. The Catalyst should do well in the clubs, and def. has some great energy. Chester’s vocals are sweet!

guys they growed up they dont want to make another HT or Meteora album. and thats only 30secs of the song and the song is like 5:42 mins so dont trip theres a guitar part in the song and also We can’t judge a song from clips, that’s a fact. But we also can’t judge an entire album from one song.

i love what i’ve heard of this song so far. you have to realise that Linkin Park can’t make the same kind of music they’ve been making, and i’m glad that they aren’t, because the kind of music they do now is what i am into as well. it’s like their taste in music changed along with mine.
Dev
July 27, 2010 2:56 pm
Man, I like Linkin Park and all, but this doesn’t sound very exciting. I’m NOT gonna judge the whole song and album just from the 30-seconds, but they picked a pretty weak 30-seconds to show us.
I hope the album is better.

July 27, 2010 3:33 pm
i’m saying this for all bands, not just Linkin Park.. but i like it when bands change up their style a lil bit. I dont wanna hear the same thing every album.
some examples of those kind of bands are Linkin Park, Sublime, Staind. Dont hate on them because they got balls. maybe it’s time for YOU to grow a pair!

July 27, 2010 4:22 pm
Are you guy serious? You cant judge an album by one song or a song by a 30 second clip. Those of you that are have got to be the most ignorant people ever. Last I remember, music is what defines linkin park, the name doesnt define the music. For those of you not smart enough to comprehend what I just said I will break it down for you. Linkin Park doesnt make music because its “linkin park” music, they make music that they are comfortable making and in doing so they like talking risks unlike many other so called “artists” out there who keep making the same kind of music over and over and dont venture off and trying different stuff. Id rather listen to music that they want to put out than listen to music that is being forced upon by the label….
Youguysaremorons
July 27, 2010 4:26 pm
and honestly if you all dont like it then hey, to each their own. I will tell you this, linkin park is way better than half the bands that are played on KROQ.
Also, I would like to say that Hybrid Theory and Meteora were genius but thats all in the past. That rap-nu-metal sound is no longer in. Look at all the bands that were in linkin parks genre….where are they now? LOL…exactly!
Heres a genius quote by charles darwin that can be applied to my argument…

This comment is the most BS on this entire page. Ive been following LP since they toured in support of HT and even gone to another country to see them when they didnt come to mine. Been a member of the LPU for 6 years but also am not really into this song (from what i hear at the mo)…..but that doesnt mean im not a true fan. Your saying if your a true fan and you dont like it you will LEARN to like it.,,,,,thats not the way it works……….Oh and i also enjoyed M2M incase im “stuck in the past”

It still has that LP sound and vibe. For those people wanting HT and Meteora back, it’s been done already, move on. I remember when people thought Meteora sucked because it sounded too much like HT, now they want that sound back? FFS make up your minds!
I had a blast mixing this song with the samples LP gave out a few weeks ago, i’m really looking forward to this album.

i like the comments backing LP seriously what are people expecting?! artists must always change and try new things… you cant be a damn 1 trick pony and be like Hybrid Theory all the time.. if they did that by now they would be irrelevant to the music world! stop judging based on 1, 30 second clip! the album will be amazing just like all the others!!! stop hating, stop being a wannabe “fan” stop talkin madness about how they’ve “changed” LP will always be LP!

July 27, 2010 11:52 pm
Pumpin… hahehaheha… classic. Uh yeah, Linkin Park has definitely gone into the outer realms of genre’s. Some people got it right. LP just wants to change the scene and make something new for themselves which they are, as sad as it really is. Dude! My last supervisor was a total hardcore fan of LP! And she’s 50!!! Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Rock on man! But when I went to LP’s last tour gig at Staples I was like, what!!! Parents and there kids… Old people, little kids, I swear! Even the floor was sad with the lamest pit I have ever seen at a show. Same with the Free UCLA gig KROQ promoted. The Linkin Park I remember and will always remember is their first real performance as a whole band when KROQ held a free concert at Best Buy in Westminster. Now that was a freakin’ LP gig!!! After Meteroa anyone has to admit that Chester and Mike were steering away more and more from the hardcoreness that they once were on Hybrid to what Minutes to Midnight was… kinda light hearted sixteen year old girl music. Now don’t get me wrong. Light hearted sixteen year old frustrated girl music is cool or whatevers, I’m just saying that not everyone of LP’s original fans are down with that and in some cases really isn’t cool at all. But! music is music and artists are artists so ofcourse some bands never stay the same and change and grow and all that sh*t! I don’t know, I personally don’t see the point in changing what a majority of people liked in the specific albums that made them who they are. I look at LP now and see corporate tools in a money grubbing world. Hey! It’s nice to have money and earn money and all that shit. But to just play music that loses fans instead of gains them is just, in the words of Rob Zombie… “Rude.” Ha! Whatevers Linkin Park! Keep doin’ what you’re doin’! Makin’ money and touching the hearts of so many poor innocent souls… “Shut up! Shut up! Shut up when you’re talkin’ to me! Shut up!!!” That’s my Linkin Park. Angry! Violent! I saw a bright red mo-hawked punker get taken down in a mosh pit by, at the time, a little hardcore kid. Best free show I ever saw! The chaos… that’s what’s cool! This crying on my shoulders I need a positive mental ability and I need to feel the beat and get a dancin’, PUMPIN!!! Hahahahaha!!! Naw man, that shit ain’t it man. But cool for the kids willing to stand and represent it. The ones who fight are the ones who make the scene! “Write that down” -Van Wilder

LP RuleZ … Let Us support them as like what we did in HT and Meteora… i am really excited to whatever LP new songs / album will bring to our generation .. im an LP solid fans here in my Country and we really like them coz they are LP .. the most down to earth band and makers of great music not just HT .. LP … lets go on Aug. 02 let us bring this song straight to the # 1 . The Catalyst for me is a great song and sound … kinda funk / rap / dance / ballad epic song . LP RULES .. we are LP fans not HT and meteora alone .

July 28, 2010 8:08 am
i agree with all the REAL LP fans… if you don’t like or agree with the change in their music, then you’re not a hardcore LP fan. Because if you were an LP fan, you’d appreciate what they’re doing and understand what it means to them! that there’s is more deepness to a song even if you can’t mosh to it… they still play the old songs, and they haven’t forgotten, so it’s the best of the two generations of LP. and if you want hardcore, M2M GAVE THAT… even HT or Meteora could not compare to Given Up, Bleed it Out, and No More Sorrow. And you guys should support Mike’s desire to want to sing. He’s never done that with Fort Minor, and now he wants to. I think that’s brave of him

Forget this ‘True fan’ stuff, you’re either a fan or not. I liked minutes to midnight and I’m all for change. But this part of the song is just like any other pop song in my opinion. Hands Held High is an example of their best stuff but this is just too mainstream for me. I’m starting to think they’ll lose their edge if they keep bringing out this kind of stuff. But let’s just wait for the album

Deal with this
July 28, 2010 2:28 pm
Okay, anyone who said this music was “weak”, “Disappointing”, “not Linkin Park”, and that type of bulls**t has to realize two things. One, no one really gives a s**t what you think. If you don’t like it, stop going around searching for these snippets, and then writing stupid comment no one wants to hear from you. My second point is for the people who say Linkin Park has to go back to the nu-metal, and rock they use to be, give it up. They changed, if you didn’t notice that after Minutes to Midnight, then i seriously have to say you’re really stupid. So just deal with it, if you want to listen to their nu-metal so much, go back to hybrid theory or Meteora, and leave the people who actually enjoy this music alone. If you don’t like what I said, piss off, or reply to it..i’ll gladly come back with something
Blackbird
July 30, 2010 2:15 am
You see? That’s exactly the point we’ve criticized! They changed – okay, every band changes their style of music anytime, but they do not change the whole genre! That Linkin Park I know is a nu metal/rock band which really kicks ass, but that Linkin Park we hear in this preview of their new single is something between techno and “We just want to be cool!”
It sucks!

A recent interview with the band states that they arent going for a particular sound anymore. They said if they make something that they like, it’s Linkin Park. Needless to say there is no way that you can sum up an entire album by listening to 30 seconds of the first single. Personally, I think anything Mike Shinoda touches is gold.

Their last album was a major disappointment and I have a bad feeling that new cd will be just the same.

Please, don”t be so quick to judge the song for its few seconds. Remeber that The Catalyst isn’t really their song. This was the single that Linkin Park asked the fans to mix into their own. Hell they even announced it on the website, MySpace page, and YouTube page. This was the mix they chose and thought it was the best out of the other mixes. So don’t blame them, blame the person who mixed the song to make it how it is.
Josh
July 31, 2010 9:50 pm
You are confused. The contest does not dictate the single. The song exists on its own as a full 5+ minute Linkin Park song. The contest winner just made a bonus remix.
You honestly think that a band would release their first single as a mix someone else did!?

Personally, this is different from what we all expect but it is suppose to be. How boring would it have been and how much critisism would there have been at another ‘Somewhere i belong’ or another ‘New Divide’ This is fresh, different, new and yes a risk but we should be excited because the LP boys view this as their best album effort to date so its gonna be a good one if you like LP. Personally, i like the clip, i think the song as a whole will make more sence on our ears, there are so many remixes with this ‘featuring you’ contest it kinda clouds your judgement but on whole it is different and different is cool. Reserve all judgement until you hear ATS in whole then you can slate or praise it. So far there has been positive support from Dj’s that have had the privelage to have heard this 6 track teaser sampler that LP have used so i know i will be buying ATS
Mark
August 2, 2010 6:51 am
Just to expand i loved HT .. Meteora was a weaker version of HT in my opinion and not as good and rather lost in amongst the dying new metal movement but then came MTM which delivered a better quality of sound, mature and developed without loosing the format that is LP and now ATS which i am sure will take them forwards because who really wants to go backwards??? We have got HT, we have Meteora why do we want it all over again?
