Rage Against The Machine Benefit Show Recap

Filed Under:

Throughout the week leading up to Friday’s Rage Against the Machine benefit show at the Palladium, we phone-ops have received dozens of angsty and worrisome calls from some of Rage’s biggest fans. Most forgot that KROQ wasn’t giving away tickets to that show because it was a benefit and you had to buy your way in.

For those who were fortunate to have grabbed a pair before they quickly sold out, they were able to witness rock music history in a never before seen light. No, I didn’t go, but YOU did! Since you’re still pumped from Friday night, let’s discuss the many events that took place, so that at least those who were unable to make it, will still feel part of it.

SPIN was at the Rage show last night and was able to document a series of events that took place last night. The most notable, was the message being conveyed throughout the entire show. Proceeds from ticket sales went directly to The Sound Strike Fund, which supports Arizona-based groups such as PUENTE Arizona and The Florence Project fight SB-1070.

(SB-1070) is not only a racist law but its a divisive law.

“Testify” was the opener that begun mobs of angry pitting, with more passion in vigor in its lyrics than ever before. The night continued with “Bulls on Parade” as well as their other raging anthems. A closing of “Killing in the Name,” riled up the crowd for a cause that will definitely has not gone unnoticed.

Everyone who didn’t get to go is DYING to hear what the show was like from YOU. Tell us your crazy Rage Against the Machine stories so that the rest of us can still feel like we were totally there.

Man this was the best show for me all year! RAGE f**king rocked the Palladium! I was center stage! As soon as the Rage sirens started the crowd started jumpin and getting pumped up! Zach came out and said We are Rage Against the Machine from Los Angeles Caifornia but in all spanish! It was sick! They opened with Testify, as soon as Zach started singing the mosh pit was in full effect! I was moshing crazy! It was the sickest mosh ever! The show was full of energy til the end! Zach made his speech during Wake Up and it was very powerful talking about the law in Arizona, with the crowd chanting “F**k Arizona!” They played classic songs like Bulls On Parade, Township Rebellion, Know your Enemy, People of the Sun, Guerrilla Radio, Calm Like a Bomb, Bullet in your Head, and Killing in the Name. Tom Morello was killing in on guitar with his bad ass solos! At the end the came up and played two more songs for an encore with Freedom and Killing in the Name. It was the best concert experience I’ve had in a while, RAGE f**king kicked ass!

I have not attend a show at the Palladium, that had so many cops for crowd control. The show itself was unbelievable, I just felt bad for Conor Oberst, he was playing, but no one was paying attention. It was just a great show, but when isn’t a RAGE show great. Especially in LA.

this was my 10th time seeing rage and it was the BEST RATM show I’ve ever seen. it started when the lights went out and the siren rang then they opened with testify and the place blew up from there. all members were at their best! Tom was on point, Brad and Tim had some great solo and Zach jumped around like he was doing it like he did in 1992. hightlights of the night included a rare remake of The Clash’s White Riot. people in the crowd included Steven Spilberg, John Mcenroe, Mike D fromm the Bestie Boys and Rick Ruben, every song every lyric made it more clear why this was the perfect setting for the first Rage show in 10 years in LA. The fight against SB1070 continues, it’s good to know that RATM lead the front!
