paparoach2010385 Epicenter Twenty Ten Artist Spotlight: Papa Roach

Formed in Dixon, CA in 1993, Papa Roach has walked the line between metal, hardcore, punk rock and pop and has grown into one of today’s most influential bands. During their early years the band wrote and recorded music non-stop and even released their first full-length album, Old Friends from Young Years, on their own record label. Since then, they have released five more albums and have received critically acclaimed reviews as song-writers and performers.

More Papa Roach after the jump!

After the release of Old Friends From Young Years and another EP, Let ‘Em Know, Papa Roach grabbed the attention of major record labels. They were eventually signed by DreamWorks Records in 1999 and immediately began recording their major record-label debut album, Infest. The album was released in 2000 and hit songs like “Last Resort” and “Broken Home” earned the album triple-platinum status. With the album’s success, Papa Roach embarked on huge tours like Ozzfest and the Warped Tour in 2000.

After a nearly endless tour, Papa Roach got back to the studio to record their second major-label album, Lovehatetragedy. Although the album was not quite as successful as its predecessor, it still sold over 500,000 copies and was certified gold.

Their third album, Getting Away With Murder,  which released in late 2003, showcased a softer, alt-rock side of the band that few had seen. Though some longtime fans criticized this new “softer” Papa Roach, the album was still largely succesful and was certified platinum. Much of it’s success was due to the hugely popular second single, “Scars.”

After touring, the band, consisting of Jacoby Shaddix on vocals, Dave Buckner on drums, lead guitarist Jerry Horton and bassist Tobin Esperance, settled down in Paramour Mansion and recorded their fourth major-label album, which would unsurprisingly is called The Paramour Sessions. The album produced two singles, “…To Be Loved” and “Forever.”

Last year the band released their most recent album, Metamorphosis, featuring Tony Palermo on drums after Dave Buckner left for personal reasons. The album produced one of the band’s most popular singles, “Lifeline.”  Papa Roach has since been touring and they are planning to release a live album this year.

Likewise, if you look close you can see me in the Last Resort video. Man I used to love these guys growing up, saw them at least once a month. I miss those days/these guys.

They remind me of Spinal Tap…just going through the fads. “One of today’s most influential bands”??? okay if you think so.

Papa Roach puts on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. Sadly their singles all suck these days, but having seen them a few times, they have never disappointed live… I’m stoked!!
