My pick of the week: MacGruber
“You know the premise of MacGruber if you’ve seen it on Saturday Night Live. He’s an ex-special-operative who is called back into action to take down his arch-nemesis, played by Val Kilmer. It’s a very hard-R comedy. This is for the grown-ups, so don’t bring the kids!”
Shrek Forever After:
“Fourth and final in the Shrek franchise. It’s Shrek and Rumpelstiltskin and apparently all the old characters are back. This is a no-brainer if you’ve got kids, and it’s in 3D.”
Best Worst Movie:
“Michael Stephenson, who played the little kid in the original [cult-classic] Troll 2 is back, directing the documentary about the rabid fans and what happened to the cast and crew of this movie. I know documentaries are sometimes a hard sell, but this is a wildly entertaining film. It reminds me of those Christopher Guest movies, only this actually happened. If you like bad movies that are so bad they’re good, you’re gonna want to check out Best Worst Movie. It’s playing here in LA at the Nuart Theatre.”
