ian Ian Astbury Rips Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor

The Cult lead singer, Ian Astbury, toured as Jim Morrison’s replacement for The Doors of the 21st Century, a tour that covered 150 shows across the globe. Astbury claims he was “honored” to step into the legendary frontman’s shoes, but was just as emotional about the lack of support from some very prestigious KROQ artists.

Read the tirade after the jump.

Jim Morrison is one of the greatest artists in music history.  He was also American, resulting in Astbury’s frustration towards some notable lead singers from the States. “There wasn’t a single American singer who stepped up to the plate and said: ‘I want to do this.  I’m an American artist – I demand to do this’…Not Eddie Vedder, not Dave Grohl, not Trent Reznor, not Perry Farrell. Not Scott Weiland. Not one of them stepped up and fought for it. When The Doors needed that generation to surround them and support them, the cupboard was bare.”

He continues, “So the next time people are handing out awards and lauding over Perry and Eddie’s wonderful contributions to music.  Really have a look at their contribution.  Integrity, dignity and experience?  Some kind of fake emotionality?  I don’t think so.”

Hmm.  Maybe a bit extreme to question the integrity and dignity of artists like Perry Farrell and Eddie Vedder.  I think their track record and contribution to the music scene the past 20+ years affirms that.  But I am only one man with one opinion.  Do you agree?  Disagree?  Let us know below.

All this and he never even mentions Glenn Danzig who is basically Jim Morrison incarnate. Albeit with giant muscles.

Didn’t Creed’s lead singer do some shows with The Doors? So does that mean we have to look to him for integrity and dignity? I certainly hope not. Ian was one of the coolest lead guys from back in the day, but I think he’s a little off his rocker……did Vedder and those others even know The Doors were looking for a new singer? I mean, I know they knew about Jim Morrisons recent passing (what was it, 37 years ago?) but did they actually know they wanted to do a tour at the present time?

well there is one interview with The Doors drummer,John, where he stated he wouldn’t tour unless Eddie Vedder would sing for them, cause he is a damn good singer. However, Eddie is always doing something, it’s not like he sits around staring off into space all day. He has side projects, but likes to concentrate mainly on Pearl Jam and furthering them. It’s just some stiff ass british twat who has nothing better to do but measure himself with Vedder. He didnt mention how Pearl Jam was THE ONLY band to boycott ticketmaster. Standing up for their fans. But whatever.

Yeah, Pearl Jam “stood up” to Ticketmaster, and then just as quickly backed down, like they hypocritical cowards that they are.

To this day, Pearl Jam tickets are still available through Ticketmaster. Guess it didn’t bother them that much. You know, enough to actually do something about it. Guess it didn’t bother their fans either.

Pearl Jam are completely full of crap, and so are their fans.

You are another childish loser, who has nothing else to do than to diss a band. Pearl Jam (and The Cult too) are a fucking fantastic band, you will never reach their success or influence. Rot alone, asshole.
