Ralph’s Video Vault – Troll 2

From time to time, Ralph opens up the Video Vault and fills us in on some little-known films. When this one was presented to us, we couldn’t turn it down! There are certain movies that are so bad that they’re awesome – THIS is one of those movies.
We were recently turned on to a documentary called Best Worst Movie that takes a look back at a little film called Troll 2, which is, oddly enough, not a sequel to the first Troll film. Not only that, but it’s about goblins as opposed to trolls, and not once mentions the word “troll” in the film.

This film was written by an Italian husband and wife team, who obviously don’t have a strong grasp on the English language. This feels like it was taken from a straight word-for-word translation of Italian to English, despite whether it makes sense or not. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that the actors (if you can call them that) were reading their lines off of cue cards that they’d never seen before!
The story is about a young boy named Jonathan, whose family takes a trip to the town of NILBOG (which just so happens to be “GOBLIN” spelled backwards), only to find that goblins are after them. These goblins want Jonathan’s family to eat their special food which will turn the humans into suitable food for the goblins. That’s the story. I kid you not!
One particular review that can be found over at Rotten Tomatoes states, “There are movies that are bad. There are movies that are so-bad-they’re-good. And then there’s Troll 2 — a movie that’s so bad that it defies comprehension.” I highly encourage you to watch for yourself (thanks to Hulu) and tell us your thoughts. (Doesn’t this movie feel like it should have a drinking game to go along with it? Ideas?)

This was a great edition of Ralph’s Video Vault — had me rolling on the floor! Never seen the movie before, but now I want to check it out to see just how crap-tastic it is.
