Spoon is an indie-rock band out of Texas, formed in 1993 by Britt Daniel (vocals/guitar) and Jim Eno. They’ve had numerous singles and have appeared on practically every late night show possible. They hit the stage at Almost Acoustic Christmas in 2007, and if you had the chance to make it to Coachella this year, you could have caught them there as well.

Daniel and Eno were both originally members of the band The Alien Beats. The name Spoon was chosen to honor the band Can, who had a song titled “Spoon” and was the theme song for the movie Das Messer. They released a vinyl EP in May 1994 titled The Nefarious EP, which was followed by their first full-length, Telephono. Their second EP, Soft Effects, was released less than a year later.

In 1998, the band released A Series Of Sneaks, their first and only album on Elektra Records. Months after the release, their Elektra A&R quit his job and the band was dropped from the label. The band then headed to Merge Records in 2000 and released their first EP through them, Love Ways, which was followed by their third full-length Girls Can Tell. Girls Can Tell sold more copies than the previous two albums combined.

The next release, Kill The Moonlight, was successful as well and had the single “The Way We Get By,” which was featured on the TV show The O.C.. The next album, Gimme Fiction, was released in 2005 and sold over 160,000 copies and debuted at #44 on the Billboard 200. In 2006, Daniel was occupied collaborating on the soundtrack for Stranger Than Fiction.

In July 2007 their 6th full-length album, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga,  was released and debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200.  The band appeared that year at Almost Acoustic Christmas. Their latest album, Transference, was released on January 18th and features the song “Got Nuffin,” which is aired on KROQ. The band has appeared on several late night talk shows, including: The Late Show With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O’brien, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, Last Call With Carson Daly, The Tonight Show With Conan O’brien and Saturday Night Live. They also recently made an appearance at Conan O’brien’s tour in Oregon.

Spoon was nice enough to come by the KROQ Coachella House and perform a few songs.

Spoon will be performing live at Weenie Roast!
