Weenie Roast 2010 Artist Spotlight: Passion Pit

Passion Pit will be performing this year at Weenie Roast. You’ve heard their song “The Reeling” on KROQ, especially after their awesome performance at the KROQ Coachella House (which you can see after the jump).

Michael Angelakos was just an ordinary college student at Emerson who wrote songs for his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, but ended up gaining tons of popularity on campus for his work. He soon was playing shows in the Boston area, which is where he was approached by Berklee College of Music student Ian Hultquist about forming a live band with his material. Angelakos accepted and the two recruited members Ayad Al Adhamy, Thom Plasse and Adam Lavinsky. Lavinsky and Plasse were eventually replaced by Nate Donmoyer and Jeff Apruzzese when the band signed to Frenchkiss Records.
Chunk of Change was the band’s first release in September 2008, with the first 4 tracks being the original songs Angelakos wrote for his girlfriend. Two more tracks were added to the EP, “Sleepyhead” and “Better Things.” “Sleepyhead” gained the band tons of exposure and has been used in a few random commercials.
On May 19, 2009, the band’s first studio album, Manners, was released. “The Reeling” (which you can hear on KROQ) and “Little Secrets” are two singles from the album that blew up on the Billboard charts. It was also just announced that they will be joining Muse on tour this summer.
Passion Pit stopped by the KROQ Coachella House a few weeks ago and performed a few songs for us, which you can see below.
