New Documentary Urges You To Shop At Record Stores
Record Store Day was the just the beginning of the record store revolution! It actually spawned a documentary.

I Need That Record! The Death (or Possible Survival) Of The Independent Record Store is a new documentary that is asking the question, “What about the independent music retailer?”
The documentary has received over 15 various awards from places like The Noise Pop Film Festival, Rolling Stone Magazine and was even the featured DVD of this year’s Record Store Day.
The film features thought-provoking interviews on the rebirth of the industry by Sonic Youth‘s guitarist Thurston Moore, Iggy and the Stooges‘ Mike Watt, Chris Frantz of Talking Heads and even philosopher Noam Chomski, all of which are complete record nerds.
This particular movie strikes a chord with me since I’m pretty obsessed with music, like much of you folks out there in radio-land. There really isn’t anything like walking into a good record store, chatting it up with the all-knowing record clerk and combing through all the gem records, CDs, and tapes (yeah I said tapes). A very rare luxury in the digital age of iPods and iTunes.
The iconoclastic film will be released July 27th direct to DVD but a few independent film theaters will be hosting the film on their silver screens. To find out a screening near you click here.

I remember heading to some little record store in Whittier on Record Store Day. Even though it was really tiny, it still made my jaw drop. I ended up buying (MIA): The Complete Discography by The Germs, some promo single by the Foo Fighters, and a 7″ record by Julian Casablancas, but I would have gotten (a lot) more if I had the money that day. This record store film sounds pretty interesting.

It’s out on DVD already! I bought my copy on Record Store Day so maybe other stores still have it. Thanks.
