Hopefully you’re acquainted with the artist, Shepard Fairey. He’s responsible for one of the most iconic graffiti images in history, Andre the Giant. The Obey sticker has been synonymous to the underground graffiti and skateboard scene for more than 20 years.

In that time Fairey has become legit, boasting the super successful Obey clothing line and arguably becoming a leading member in Obama’s marketing campaign when he was still just a candidate by donating his “ HOPE “ painting to the campaign. This time Shepherd has hit the big leagues with a true American icon: Iggy Pop and The Stooges!

To mark the deluxe re-release of the one of the greatest albums in rock in roll history, Raw Power! (that’s not an opinion, it’s a fact), Shepard has created one hell of a rock n’ roll poster. He caught up with LA Weekly a few days ago to tell how this awesome poster came to be:
“I was in touch with Iggy about doing a portrait of him for my show at Deitch Projects, and I also worked with photographer Robert Matheu on the Billy Idol greatest hits album Idolize Yourself.”
“Anyway, Robert was working on the deluxe re-issue of Raw Power, as well as a book on the Stooges. Iggy, not knowing Robert and I already knew each other, asked Robert to send me the Stooges book. This exchange resulted in me being asked about designing a poster for the Raw Power deluxe package and the Raw Power tour. I could try to act cool about it, but honestly this is a dream come true for me.”
I’ve loved Iggy Pop & The Stooges since I was 12 years old. I remember walking into a super tiny record store and picking up Raw Power on tape! Lucky for all of you who don’t have a copy of this amazing record, a deluxe re-release will be in stores on April 27th. The re-release of Raw Power will include 4 discs with a newly remastered David Bowie mix for maximum rock “n” roll , a DVD on the making of this awesome project, a Japanese import 45 EP of Search and Destroy, and a whole bunch more.
