New Message From Ralph Garman To You

ralphagain New Message From Ralph Garman To You

As many of you know, Kevin and Bean team member Ralph Garman and his wife have been going through an extraordinarily difficult month with the premature birth of their daughter Olivia. He sends this new update.

“To my K & B family,

My on-going thanks for your prayers, love, and support. I really thought I’d be back to work by now, and wish I could talk to you all in person.

So many of you have been so kind with your continuing e-mails. They’re all filled with positive wishes and questions concerning Olivia‘s health, so I felt the need to give you an update…”

Click more for the news from Ralph and how you can help.

“I wish I had better news, but, sadly, the situation is that my little girl is still struggling in the neonatal intensive care unit. Everyday is a emotionally challenging battle, but thanks to the support of friends, family, and the K & B listeners, my wife and I seem to somehow find the strength to keep going. The truth is, Olivia shows us everyday what a brave fighter she is, and that makes our troubles seem meaningless in comparison.

Please keep a good thought for her as we go forward, and hopefully we’ll all be celebrating victory over all her health issues soon.

All my love and gratitude,

-Ralph

Kevin and Bean here again. If you would like to send an email of support, please click here (ralph@kroq.com).

Several listeners have asked for a physical address to mail cards to and KROQ is at 5901 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, Ca., 90034.

Finally, Ralph has shared with us on and off the air how much he deeply admires the doctors, nurses and staff at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. They have worked round-the-clock to give Olivia, born nearly two months prematurely, the best possible care 24/7 since her birth.

The hospital has a Grateful Patient program where donations can be earmarked in the name of a loved one, to be used to “make advances in biomedical research, educate tomorrow’s physicians, and continue serving the community for years to come.”

If you would like to make a contribution of any amount, please do so in the name of Olivia’s brother who tragically did not survive. Honor the memory of Lincoln James Garman by clicking here.

Thank you.

My heart aches – I didn’t know why I didn’t hear one of my favorite voices on the radio (thought maybe he had moved on to another job). Being a mother of twins myself, I cannot begin to fathom the pain Ralph and his family are experiencing. God Bless you

My thoughts are with you buddy. I’m the parent of 2 NICU graduates. The first spent his first 7 weeks of life in the NICU. I know what you are going through with that. You get great news one day, only to get bad news the next day. Having to deal with those alarms, visiting hours, moody nurses, etc. They are trying times. Most of the nurses are fantastic, but occasionally there is that one that is just a devil woman.

The only other “Olivia” I know of is on Fringe, and she kicks ass, so don’t worry about it, Ralph, lil Olive will be solving crimes of a supernatural nature in no time. With any luck, she’ll grow up and have crazy powers. That’s why she was a pre-me, she needed to be out in this world as soon as possible, theres lots of stuff that needs to be done. Come back soon dude, best wishes.

Dear Ralph and Kari, as the Mom of a preemie, I know the anguish you are going through. You can see from all the comments that you are not alone, though it will feel like that in the still of the night. I won’t say it gets easier, because it does not. But you will come out on the other side. Forever changed, but you will get though it. Because when Olivia comes home, you won’t have a choice. You will have to be there for her. And you will be, I have no doubts. Love to you three. RJ

Ralph – I was so pleased to hear your voice at 7:00 a.m. when I turned on KROQ for my 1 hour morning commute today. Your show biz beat made me laugh, and I was amazed by the resiliency of the human spirit! At 7:30 a.m., Kevin & Bean, showing their oft-hidden caring side, encouraged you to share your experiences and pain which resulted in my crying right along with you (making driving a tad difficult). You are right though – you (and the show generally) do provide many of us much-needed release from our daily pressures and we DO begin to feel like family (although never having met). As an example, on 9-11, I tried listening to network news reports but quickly switched to you and Doc who masterfully handled then, as you did today, a very difficult and personal situation. Thank you to all of you and my thoughts are with you and your family.

We were so happy to hear your voice again today. I know that everyday is a struggle for you and your family, but keep Christ close to your heart and believe in the power of prayer. God has answered so many prayers and is all powerful. Just wanted to let you know too that my 17 year old son, who at that age think they are so incredibly cool, cried when he heard of your loss. You and your family remain in our prayers and Lincoln’s name will be added to our parish prayer list. Stay strong and again it is so good to hear you again!! ICU nurses rock!

To Ralph and his family. I wish for lots of strength for you, your wife and your little girl. She has her brother watching over her. I lost my twin girls when they were born at 24 weeks, there’s nothing worse in life. But, I do have a friend who had both her children at 30 weeks and they are healthy, happy kids today. My niece was also born at 35 weeks and after two weeks in the NICU is home and such a chunky baby now! Hoping all three of you are home and doing well, so soon!
