Blur, who regrouped last year for a summer tour, have decided to release a limited edition 7″ vinyl single in honor of the 3rd annual Record Store Day. Their EMI label, Parlophone, and its imprint Regal, are putting out special releases only to the UK retailers that are participating in the international event.

While no other details have come out yet about the release other than stating that 1,000 pressings will be issued, details are expected soon.

Other artists included in the list of UK releases are the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Lily Allen, Hot Chip, Pet Shop Boys, Bat For Lashes, and Babyshambles, amongst others. At this time, there aren’t plans for a US release from Blur, nor a new album or tour, as Damon Albarn has been busy will all things Gorillaz (who are headlining day 3 of Coachella).

Albarn spoke to UK publication The Sun, and stated “We want independent record stores to continue — they’re an important part of our musical culture. Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it.”

More can be found about Record Store Day here, including a list of US stores that are participating.

I used to be real crazy about Blur when I was younger, especially when Gorillaz first came to be. I think that this band coming out with a new album and Damon saying how independent music stores are so important in our musical culture – makes me appreciate them even more.

Its sucks that “Song 2″ is the only song that kroq knows. During the 90′s kroq played every single Oasis release, while ‘Country house’ and ‘Bettlebum” were #1 the U.K. and kroq never touch those songs. I bet kroq doesn’t even know about the Oasis vs Blur rivalry. P.S. Oasis Sucks!!!
