A band that puts on a great live show, outside of just playing their instruments well, definitely makes them stick around in my mind for an extended period of time. This is the case with MUTEMATH. Why I’d waited so long to see them play live is beyond me!

A friend had tried to get me to listen to MUTEMATH for years because he knew one of the guys. So many times those friend-of-a-friend’s bands are big-time letdowns, and I didn’t want to offend him when I didn’t like his buddy’s band. Jump ahead a couple of years – enter “Typical” – a song in which the video had the band singing with backwards playback. Rad video, cool sound… and I still never ventured out to see them play live until last year. It was one of the BEST shows I’d seen in a VERY long time! I will never doubt my friend’s judgment again!

MUTEMATH is a Grammy-nominated band of high-energy performers from New Orleans. Between a lead singer who plays a keytar and does handsprings over his keyboard, and a drummer who crowd-surfs ON A DRUM, you definitely get your money’s worth at a MUTEMATH show. The energy that these four guys bring to their live show is entirely contagious! Coachella seems like the perfect place for a band like this to play for such a diverse audience!

MUTEMATH’s “Spotlight” was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Twilight, and despite the many ways that the Twilight Saga have failed, putting together a solid soundtrack is NOT amongst the list of failures! The band promoted their song by playing it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This video has since been pulled off the web almost everywhere by NBC, but if you do find it, it’s well worth your 3:40 (not like I have it bookmarked or anything).

Here’s a different video of them playing to hold you over til you see them in Indio.
