Coachella Artist Spotlight: The Soft Pack

If Bob Dylan and The Strokes had their DNA spliced and smash together to form some awesome hideous creature, that monster might be The Soft Pack… and they’re here to conquer your ear canals.

Formed in San Diego back in ’06, Matt Lamkin and Matty McLoughilin originally performed under the name The Muslims. The band changed their name to The Soft Pack in the fall of 2008. In an interview with Spinner, guitarist Matty McLoughlin let out his frustration with the old name. “We hated the band name and the completely ignorant, stupid annoying sh*t that came along with it.”
Pissed off and determined to break the mold of the generic punk that had stained the City of Sun & Surf for decades, The Soft Pack set out to make a name for themselves by staying away from stereotypes and leaning toward a direction that is far from safe, far from predictable and embracing all that is rock n roll.

The band has been growing a steady following in SoCal. They’ve been touring non stop, playing in bedrooms, lofts, dive bars and pretty much any room where you can squeeze a PA system. From touring with The Black Lips to Franz Ferdinand, this band is carving a name our for themselves.
The band’s been getting attention from VH1, LA times, Rolling Stone and will be playing the last night of Coachella alongside former tour budies Phoenix.
