I Am Loving: Mumford And Sons’ “Little Lion Man”

My friend and co-worker Kristen Peak turned me on to a song called, “Little Lion Man” by Mumford and Sons. All it took was one listen and I was hooked. It’s amazing, amazing, amazing. The melody, the singing, the words, the subject matter. All of it! It is all AMAZING.
Once again, I am asking you to take a listen and either discover a new band that you may end up loving, or at the very least, just enjoy this very rad song. It’s a song about f*cking up someone’s heart and about doing something you’re not very proud of. It’s a ton of fun to sing.
It is NOT a rock song. In fact, there are banjos and stomping involved, but it will still grab you by the balls. I guess if I had to compare the sound to something, I would say it is a mixture of Arcade Fire, Flogging Molly and Fleet Foxes. This is also not something you’re likely to hear on the radio a lot.
Some of the lyrics I love: “Your grace is wasted in your face, your boldness stands alone among the wreck, learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck.”

I’ve been describing them as Fleet Foxes with balls, or Frightened Rabbit without the accent, but better. Banjos…. who knew?

I’ve been trying to evangelize people about this band since I discovered them about a month or so ago. I absolutely love them. The whole album is great. They seem like they’d be a great live band. They are sort of the bluegrass version of Flogging Molly.
As someone else mentioned. Check out the Avett Brothers — another new favorite of mine. Imagine bluegrass with a bit of punk attitude. Avett is actually playing in L.A on Oct 1st.
