Ya gotta have nads of steel to try to cover an all-timer like the Beastie Boys‘ anthem (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party.) Let’s face it, that’s the signature song of one of music’s most revered groups.

Well, a new band that includes members of an old band do just that. Meet the Hotrats and hear what they’ve done with the song after the MORE.

The Hotrats (weirdly, not Hot Rats, like the Frank Zappa album they took their name from) are a spin off of the British group Supergrass. Two members, Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey, have recorded an all-covers album of songs by Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, Kinks, David Bowie, The Cure, and others.

Their album is available now! Dig their take on the Beastie Boys from Late Night With David Letterman.

I think I need to take an acid bath after that just to feel clean. The drummer was the only thing that didn’t make me feel a little ill.

Love The Hotrats (and love Supergrass too – very underrated band). The show at the Troubadour was amazing….bring ‘em back.

This was a bad cover of a rock anthem for a generation. The singer reminds me of Johnny Depp from Willy Wonka. Lacks a driving beat and powerful vocals. The Beastie Boys should reject this version as being bad…

they have a good sound to them just not a sound that compliments this type of song, the beastie boys have a unique sound to them and should not be covered by anyone
