April Foolishness Spotlight: Adam Carolla
Adam Carolla has sat along side some of our favorite people, Jimmy Kimmel and Dr. Drew. Like Jeffrey Ross, he too was on Dancing With The Stars.
He even began his radio career here at KROQ as Mr. Birchum the Vietnam vet turned angry-but-loveable highschool woodshop teacher.

Adam started out doing local comedy in Los Angeles while holding down several random jobs, including a boxing instructor. He was listening to KROQ one day when they were talking about putting on a boxing match, and after repeated attempts to call in, he came down to the station to offer his assistance. This is when he met Jimmy Kimmel, and eventually the two became close friends. Jimmy encouraged him to create his own character for the show, which led to the birth of Mr. Birchum, the Vietnam-veteran woodshop teacher who made frequent appearances on The Kevin & Bean Show.
In 1995, Dr. Drew asked Adam to replace Riki Rachtman as his co-host on Loveline. He co-hosted the show for 10 years, including the period when it was airing on MTV. His funny tirades on the show helped develop himself a large fan-base. He constantly went on about things that were off-topic, but his black comedy style made people laugh. He left the show in 2005 to pursue an opportunity for his own morning talk show.

Adam replaced Howard Stern’s morning radio show throughout the western U.S. It was called The Adam Carolla Show. He hosted the show until 2009 when the station he broadcasted from switched formats over to our sister station, K-AMP. The week after this happened, he started a podcast called The Adam Carolla Podcast. The first few months were incredibly successful, and in September 2009, CBS Radio partnered with him and created a new streaming station that he heads (K-ACE) where he can stream his show online. He also created an automotive podcast that he calls CarCast. You can check out his show here.
Adam Carolla was co-host of one of the greatest television shows EVER, The Man Show. Girls jumping on trampolines, beer drinking, and hilarious skits were just some of the many great things about this show. Adam and Kimmel hosted the show for 4 years, but left when Kimmel left to pursue Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He became a writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live! and began making some appearances on it. Jimmy, Adam, and Daniel Kellison are the heads of Jackhole Productions, which also produced the show Crank Yankers. The show is about prank calls made by them and celebrity guests, which are then reenacted by puppets.
In 2005, Adam had a few runs at having his own show. First, he hosted a show on Comedy Central called Too Late With Adam Carolla. That lasted only a few months, but right after that ended he had a show on TLC about remodeling his childhood house called The Adam Carolla Project. He’s also had several guest appearances on talk shows and done some voice-over work on some animated shows like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Family Guy and Drawn Together.
Adam appeared on Dancing With The Stars in 2008. Although they were in different seasons, he lasted longer than Jeffrey Ross, who also has appeared on DWTS. He then went on to host the American version of Top Gear, a popular show in England. The show didn’t get picked up by NBC like originally planned, but earlier this year it was announced that the History Channel picked it up. Adam landed a different deal with NBC though, where he produces and stars in a show that follows the life of a contractor and father trying to shape up his life. The pilot is still untitled, but it’s the first comedy pilot ordered by NBC this year so expect to see something soon.
