Ten Albums That You’ll Need To Buy – Spring 2010 Edition

So last week, Phone-Op Derek posted about which 2010 albums to look forward to and this got me thinking.
There are quite a few albums being released this Spring that I can’t wait for, so I decided to put together a list of my most anticipated albums.

This is the Gorillaz 3rd studio album and in listening to the free album stream, it doesn’t disappoint! Damon Albarn (or Murdoc Nichols) and his band of animated “monkeys” welcome guest musicians Mos Def, Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, The Clash‘s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, Bobby Womack and more. The best thing to come of this album so far though is the video for “Stylo”. It features none other than Bruce Willis and a crazy ass car chase.Download the album right now on iTunes, and check them out live when they headline day 3 of Coachella. |

Whatever Danger Mouse touches these days turns to gold. In the past few years he has produced Beck and The Black Keys, mashed up The Beatles and Jay-Z in The Grey Album, and created one of the catchiest songs ever, Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy.” If that wasn’t enough he is back, this time with The Shins mastermind, James Mercer to form Broken Bells. In listening to the few tracks that have been released you can tell that these two enjoy working together. It is a great mix of ideas and sounds that will hopefully lead to more that just this one album. Check out the video for “The High Road” and Buy Broken Bells self titled debut album now. |

Although technically not an album, this is my most anticipated release this Spring. If you’ve ever seen The White Stripes live you know why. The DVD portion documents their entire 2007 Canadian tour, while the CD portion is a live greatest hits including “Seven Nation Army,” “Icky Thump,” and “Fell In Love With A Girl” along with almost all their other singles. Stream the album here, and preorder the CD or Vinyl and DVD here. There is also a Deluxe box set available which includes a bunch of extras you can check out here. If you are a fan you NEED this box set! Check the trailer for the film |

Courtney Love is CRAZY! Just listen to her recent interview with Kevin & Bean. You never know what to expect, but when I heard the new single “Skinny Little Bitch” I realized that Hole was back. Her last couple solo albums were no bueno but Nobody’s Daughter could be the saving grace for Ms. Love and company. It reminds me of what Hole used to be… 90s rock. This incarnation of Hole is completely new except for Courtney Love and it seems as this is what the band needed. A fresh start. Listen to “Skinny Little Bitch” below. |

Back in September, Chino Moreno showed up to our Super Tuesday show with Alice In Chains and sat down with Kat to talk about the new Deftones album. This is the first Deftones album since 2006 and Chi Cheng’s car accident. They released the first single, ‘Rocket Skates” as a free download. It has a very White Pony-ish sound and one can only imagine that the rest of the album will have a similar feel. Listen to “Rocket Skates” and check out the lyrics to the song. |

Stone Temple Pilots coming out with a new album? Yes, you heard right. They are back with their first since 2001 and don’t seem to be slowing anytime soon. The first single, “Between The Lines” will be out later this month and the band will head off on a huge world tour starting with dates at SXSW. I am sure we will be seeing a lot of STP in the near future so keep checking KROQ.com for more tour info. If you need something to hold you over, click here to read Phone-Op Gouda’s post about Stone Temple Pilots in 2010! |

Devo is one of those bands that will ALWAYS be around. They had the number 1 song on KROQ, “Whip It” in 1980 and 30 years later comes a brand new album. According to Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh, “If you listen to some of them with your eyes closed, you might go, ‘Oh, my God, it’s Album One, Side Three’ or Freedom of Choice, Side Three.’” If you have ever heard Freedom of Choice, you know why this album is highly anticipated album. Devo recently played the Winter Olympics and debuted a few new tracks, one being “Fresh.” Listen below and check out Devo on day 2 of Coachella. |

I have always been a Jack Johnson fan. He has a soothing quality to his music and when you listen it makes you just feel happy. When I heard that he was coming out with another album, I was pretty stoked, and when I heard that him listening to The White Stripes and Radiohead influenced this album, I was even more stoked! He is touring around the world this summer, but hasn’t announced any So Cal dates yet. Also be on the lookout for his new single “You And Your Heart.” I hear it is very Beatles-y. Check out the video below for a sneak at the single and Jack Johsnon covering some Minor Threat.Side note… He now has hair!? |

Against Me! have announced plans to release the follow-up to what was one of the best albums of the last decade, New Wave. They recently played a run of shows through town and previewed some of the new material, and from what I heard, the album will give New Wave a run for its money. Plus Butch Vig is producing White Crosses, so that is always a plus! Against Me! have been around for a while but I started REALLY enjoying them after seeing them in concert. The next time they come around, make sure to catch them. They are the best punk band to come out of Gainesville, Florida! Random Against Me! fact… Their old drummer quit the band to run a burrito shop! |
