My Sweet Betty White

I’ve been a fan of the great Betty White my entire life. Don’t know the name? She was one of the stars of Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s, and of The Golden Girls in the 1980s and 1990s and of Boston Legal in the 2000s.

To the delight of the nearly 500,000 fans on the Facebook page set up to draft Betty to host Saturday Night Live this season, she announced over the weekend that some sort of appearance going to happen!

At Elton John‘s post-Oscar party Sunday night Betty said about the grassroots campaign to get her the gig, “I don’t know why or how but it’s been wonderful.”

At 88 years young, Betty has been everywhere in the last year. She co-starred with Sandra Bullock in the mega-hit The Proposal.

She starred in one of the most popular commercials of this year’s Superbowl, seen above for Snickers.

And she gave one of the best acceptance speeches ever, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.

Did I mention she’s 88? Here’s hoping Saturday NIght Live comes up with material worthy of this comedy legend. Don’t blow it!
