Hole has been around since 1989 and developed an enormous following during the 90′s. Their albums Live Through This and Celebrity Skin were both notorious in their own rights. Live Through This is regarded as one of the best albums of the 90′s, and Celebrity Skin received 3 Grammy nominations. With hits like “Doll Parts,” “Celebrity Skin,” and “Malibu,” (among several others) it’s easy to see why this group earned the respect they deserved.

Live Through This was the band’s first major label debut and second studio album. The multi-platinum album featured contributions from Kurt Cobain, who has married to Love before his tragic death on April 8, 1994, just 4 days before the release of Live Through This on April 12. His death shook the world, and had unimaginable effects on Love. Before Love and Hole really had a chance to recover from this, they took another hit. Their bass player, Kristin Praff, passed away on June 16, 1994 of an apparent overdose, about two months after the loss of Cobain. The band took a few months off, then toured heavily through the end of 1994 and 1995.

Hole released a few EP’s between the release of their last two studio albums. They were on hiatus for a time as well, somewhat due to Love’s acting career. Members of Hole were performing separately, and it wasn’t until the release of Celebrity Skin that they finally got back together and started touring again in 1998. Celebrity Skin took the band’s sound in a different direction. Pop definitely had more of an influence, and almost half of the tracks were co-written by Billy Corgan. The band toured and played shows until July 1999, and didn’t officially announce that the group was separating until 2002.

While the band saw a number of lineups, Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson were the two original members who remained on board until the breakup of the band. Erlandson is not part of the new Hole project, nor is her bass player Melissa Auf der Mar, who was with the band from 1994-99 after replacing Praff’s spot. The new lineup includes Micko Larkin on guitar, Shawn Daily on bass and Stu Fisher drumming. The group played its first full show this February at the Shockwave NME Awards in England.

If you’re heading to Austin this year for SXSW, make sure to catch Hole’s first U.S. appearance since the reformation of the group at The Spin Magazine Party on Friday, March 19. Hole will also soon be announcing the dates for a full US tour, so keep checking back to KROQ.com for more info. They have a few shows scheduled for the beginning of May, but unless you’re in the UK, you won’t be seeing those.

Nobody’s Daughter is set to be released on April 27.

OMG! I cannot wait to see Hole! I miss Courtney. I could not believe that she was on with Kevin and Bean this morning. I cannot find any info about the concert at Henry Fonda on April 22. I’ve tried looking it up on ticketmaster but it says nothing about Hole being there. What’s going on?
