For Fans Of Vampire Weekend...Its Fools Gold

The dirty little secret about my business is that deejays don’t get to play a lot of the music we want to play on the radio. We all love KROQ but Kat (call me!), Nicole (call me!), Doug (don’t ever call me!) and I also love to share other great artists with you that haven’t made the air yet.

Click on through to the other side to hear about my new obsession, L.A.’s own Fool’s Gold.

Their debut album came out in September so maybe I’m late to the party but it has been on constant rotation at my house since I bought it (yes, with cash) two weeks ago.

Here’s part of Fool’s Gold’s Wiki bio:

Fool’s Gold is a Los Angeles collective that weaves together western pop aesthetics with African rhythms and melodies. The group started as a side project of two young musicians, vocalist/bassist Luke Top and lead guitarist Lewis Pesacov, who set out to explore their shared love of various forms of African music (specifically Congolese, Ethiopan, Eritrean and Malian), Krautrock, and 80s dance influenced pop music.”

That’s fancy talk for “if you like a little Africa in your America … if you feel like an irresistible top-down-on-a-sunny-day kind of record …. if you want to hear what Vampire Weekend would sound like on steroids” … then get Fool’s Gold.

My name’s not Doug, and I’d like to call, as I would like to confess my crime. When is best for you?

I really don’t understand why KROQ doesn’t play any tracks from Ida Maria”s album “Fortress Round My Heart”. It’s KROQ-type music…wassup?!?…
