NEW KROQ MUSIC: Neon Trees Will Rule The Universe

Provo, Utah is really famous for just about one thing: Being home to Brigham Young University and a nearly 100% magic underpants-wearing Mormon population. When you think of Provo, you don’t really think of a rock scene or any bands that have even come out of the area… Until now.
Formed in 2005 from the land of sand and cactus, Neon Trees could possibly be the best thing since slice bread. Their uncanny ability to fuse straight-up indie rock with modern pop melodies has made this band a must-see.
Since their 2008 North American Tour with The Killers, a beehive-like buzz has been surrounding this group resulting in their debut album “Habits” scheduled for release this March.
Neon Trees’ debut single “Animal” has been making a bit of splash here at the World Famous KROQ and for good reason. This synthesized upbeat rock jam has been tantalizing listeners with its catchy dance beat and Snuggie-smooth sound that’s recently lit up our request line phones.
With influences ranging from Fleet Wood Mac to Morrissey, this band easily produce’s a sonic swirl of ambient dance rock that can’t be overlooked.
This is definitely a band to keep your eye on. The single “Animal” is currently available for download from iTunes. ![]()

I absolutely love the Neon Trees! They put on an amazing live show. I can’t wait to see them perform on Jimmy Kimmel on March 16th–the day their CD comes out.

The Used claim Orem as their home town. Yeah, they’re only a few minutes apart but…

Uh… yes, some of us have certainly been to Provo. I’ve spent quite a bit of time there as many of my friends are LDS. The music scene is definitely starting to bubble. – lightning

There is a ton of art and music in Provo and I am excited for it to start getting recognized. Neon Trees is one of the best bands I have seen live because they bring back the swagger and excitement that was rock n roll, the bombast of Bowie and Jagger mixed with the pop rock and dance of the new wave era. They will be an exciting band to watch grow, especially on the bigger platform they are about to step on. They represent Provo well, because there are other great bands , from all different varieties of sounds and genres, making great music in Provo, and the success of Neon Trees may bring attention to this great town.

The used are from Orem, BUT orem is pretty close to provo. I think the difference between the used’s rise and Neon Trees rise this year will be that NT has played in provo since 2005 getting better and better and better where as the used had only played a few shows as the used.
