There are many Sonic Youth songs that melt my brain because they rock so hard—”Teenage Riot” “Kool Thing” and “100%” just to name a few but since it’s a 90′s weekend and since I love their interpretation of this song I chose their cover of “Superstar.”
The song originally appeared on the IF I WERE A CARPENTER tribute record. The lineup includes The Cranberries, Matthew Sweet, Redd Kross, Grant Lee Buffalo and more all doing songs by Karen and Richard Carpenter. You could call them (Carpenters) the original White Stripes—a two piece with girl on drums and dude on keys. A stack of 7″ records make up the box set version.

Sonic Youth’s “Superstar” is what my dreams sound like—Thurston Moore whispering creepy things in my ear while images from Dali paintings assault me!
Sonic Youth rocks the Fox Theatre in Pomona tonight and The Wiltern tomorrow night.
